2019 ILS PIANKO Award Winners
Copper & Kings – GEOGR&PHY
Copper & Kings latest release, GEOGR&PHY is a deluxe brandy blend of pot-distilled brandies from the US and South Africa, married and aged for two years in Kentucky bourbon barrels. The brand and its label designer chose to integrate both hot stamp and emboss with tight registration to highlight the marriage or, coming together of these two different types of brandy styles. Specific design elements representing both American and South African were highlighted using a combination of specialty finishing techniques, telling the story of this bi-continental brandy.
The 86 Company – Tequila Cabeza Sagrado
Tequila Cabeza Sagrado was The 86 Company’s first limited-edition (only 1,330 bottles) super premium brand launch and as such, needed to express this through the packaging. To capture the special nature of this product, they named it "Sagrado," which means "sacred" in Spanish, and the Virgin of Guadalupe reflects this. The brand “wanted to bottle a spirit for those extra special occasions when you want to share something special and rare with good friends.” To ensure the packaging conveyed this, the brand chose a thicker, eggshell material for a high-quality feeling, and opted for a combination of specialty finishing techniques including emboss to add a tactile design element, and reinsertion for an unexpected detail that can be seen through the bottle, featuring flowers often depicted with the Virgin on Guadalupe.
Goose Creek Candles – American Cancer Society Special Release
Goose Creek Candle partnered with the American Cancer Society and released a special line of candles to help raise money in the fight against cancer, donating $8 from the sale of each candle to ACS as part of its Goose Creek Cares campaign. The labels were created for a series of 12 popular Goose Creek fragrances and featured limited-edition designs with messages of courage and hope, as well as a blue hot stamp. As a cause-related special release, with a number of versions featuring unique, high-quality graphics and messaging, digital print was the ideal choice for executing the project.
Colonial Candle – Falling Leaves & Holiday Star Collection Candles & Wax Melts
Colonial Candle leveraged HP Indigo’s new ElectroInk Silver technology to achieve the silver star and gold leaf embellishments utilized across its 2018 Falling Leaves, and Holiday Star Collection wax melts and candles. This innovative technology allowed the brand to achieve high-value prints with mid-brilliance metallic effects in a fully digital printing process, giving them the graphic flexibility to easily, and more cost effectively change the metallic design from season to season.
